Beach Landscaping Ideas

If you are one of those that are lucky enough to live near the beach, then you will need some beach landscaping ideas for your outdoor area. There are plenty of plants that are perfect for a beach area. You just need to make sure you choose plants that can stand up under lots of salt, moisture and heat. The briny air carries moisture and salt to your plants and can cause various damage if they are not hardy enough to withstand the conditions. Not only that, but the sandy soil usually does not have enough nutrients to nurture flowers and plants to their fullest.

One quick solution to this problem is container gardening. You can buy appropriate containers and place them wherever you want. Another advantage to container gardening is that you can select the perfect potting soil for your plants and flowers. You still need to choose salt resistant flowers and plants, because the salty air will cause damage to more delicate botanicals. Ivy geraniums are colorful, beautiful and very hardy when it comes to resisting damage from salt and moisture. These flowers work best in hanging baskets and feature blossoms in shades of red, pink and white.

Lantana plants are also great for beach areas where there is a lot of sand. These broadleaf evergreen shrubs bloom in shades of pink and yellow. They are sturdy, strong and great for attracting butterflies. Lantanas are fairly tall and their blossoms are quite large. The blossoms are best described as puffy clusters. Daylilies are also great for the beach. They are not as resistant to saltwater as lantanas or ivy geraniums, but they can thrive when kept in rich potting soil. If you are looking for vines and climbing flowers that can work well in a beachy area, try choices like Virginia creeper, English ivy, Confederate jasmine, Bougainvillea and Winterberry holly. Vines and climbing flowers are perfect for lattice work and even around your mailbox post.

You may want to consult a professional landscaper to learn more about beach landscaping ideas. Professional landscapers can devise the perfect plan for beautifying your beachfront area. Professional landscaping can be costly, but worth it if you are determined to have a beautifully landscaped outdoor area. To save on costs, check around with different landscaping companies to find out who offers the best services for the best price. Comparison shopping is a great way to save money on most anything, and landscaping services are no exception!
